I was a Thud crew Chief in Korat with the 469th TFS and when the f4s came in was transferred to the 34TFS. We were TDY at Takhli for repairs to our runway and I was the crew chief for Lt. Zukowski. He was driving one of my buddy's thuds because our thud was down for repairs that day.
I was working on an illustration for him. I had just finished putting it on the the side of plane when I was told by my line chief that he was shot down. He was on a agm 12c mission. He was from Chicago Ill and I was from Kenosha Wis. so we became good friends. Chicago is only about 50 miles from Kenosha. Our High school teams competed against each other once. He was only a few years older than I. I tried to contact his family members several times over the years with no success.
