75 - Udorn

Pinky Bilz: rasputin@bbtel.com

Was stationed at Udorn, July '69 to December '70. Remember a Thud taking the wrong barrier and ripping the hook off the plane. He kept going down the runway, into and out a klong and stopping about 50 yards from the perimeter road. For those interested, there is a web site - TLC.com or org. (Thailand, Laos, Cambodia) Another web site - UdornResearchGroup.org. There is also a VFW post at Udorn. I know this is about Udorn, but we all served in this wonderful country. I even got married and still am after 43 years. Sawadee Kha

Pinky, Thanks for your entry and your service. Take care, Jack

Mickey Harrison: themickmaster@cox.net

Hi Bill and Tony Germann
Don Harten and I were together during your F105 training. I worked as as an RN at the hops. Brought Bob Casey's first boy into the world. I spoke to Casey and Mary Beth about 1 1/2 years ago. Just talked about old times and enjoyed every min. of it. I had lunch and dinner with Don Harten last Aug. in Vegas, same old DOn. He mentioned that you also lived in Vegas.
I have been living in San Diego for the last 45 years and met and married a Navy Flyboy. Sorry. Very much the opposite to Don, more like Jim Metz. My heart still hurts about Jim Metz, I was at Takhli (Spelling) when he was shot down.
Anyway after I came back from the Far East, I went back to UCSD Medical School Ext. and became a Nurse Practitioner. Should have gone to Med school in the first place. I retired early, agent orange got me the lung surgeon thinks and had a tumor in my lung and lost half the lung. Never stopped me from playing tennis though. Tough old broad I am. Anyway after that retirement I went into the film business and that is how I met up with Don. My film and my student that I mentored won . It was great seeing him and hearing about his writing and since have read his book. Next one he says I get a "little" mention. I gave him all the pictures I had from Thailand. My filming came to a halt when my husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Need to stay home but I allow one treat and that is singing with the San Diego Festival Chorus and Orchestra. We just gave a concert last Sun. to over 1000 in the audience. I guess I like the limelight. I have had a fun life. Looks like I am running out of room. Take care. Love, Mickey

Mickey, Thank you for your service. You've indeed had an interesting journey. Take care, Jack

73 - Korat Royal Thai Air Base

Lloyd T. Callicoat: tookie242000@yahoo.com

I served as a crew chief on the F-105 May 1967-May 1968 in Korat. I remember the Munitions Bomb Dump Explosion. Some air craft crashes on run way. Does anyone remember the F-105 that came back with the sam in its wing? The F-105 that pulled so many G's that it twisted it and had to be sent back to Republic? God bless all that their books were called for.

Lloyd, Thanks for your comments and your service. I don't recall that incident, but perhaps one of our readers might. I'll also forward your question to a few other folks. Take care, Jack

Donald M. Revers: mrevers@drs-ts.com

Please indulge me as I share a few personal observations about a modest individual whose historical exploits are recorded within the pages of this website. He would not recall this time as his finest but undoubtedly some of the finer hours.

As visitors here or elsewhere may have read, heard or will hear my father, Don Revers, has slipped the surly bonds. He now answers roll call with his comrades that went before him- he knew the "scarf" recorded the names of so very few.
Rest assured and take solace in that he staunchly defended and pressed home the mission of the both the U.S. Air Force and life's responsibilities until the end. His hand remained on the stick and the last ride in the beloved Thud was on the deck, burner lit and checking six.

If you find the time please share and pass along that Dad was immeasurably proud to be associated with all his comrades remembered both here and elsewhere. The promise being still kept is not to ever be forgotten, yet always sorely missed, and forever associated with the blessings of having shared life.

Respectfully yours,
Donald M. Revers

"Throw a nickel on the grass..."

Donald, Thank you for your thoughtful entry. Your dad may have flown west, but he will be long remembered by all of us. Our condolences to you and all of Don's family. Take care, Jack

Bill Augsburger Jr: bludyna@msn.com

My dad, Bill "Augie" Augsburger who appears in some of the reunion photos is proud to have flown with all you great guys. Every once a great while, he will share a new story with me of his exploits while based out of Korat dropping greetings on the Commies. I want to send a thanks to all the patriots in River Rats!

PS: My dad doesn't know it, but even though I recently retired from a very exciting and dangerous career myself, I was always very jealous of the fighter pilot career that God gave him. Good on ya.
Augie Jr

Hi Augie Jr., Thanks for your entry and generous comments. You certainly had an outstanding career and your dad is justifiably proud of you. Augie Sr. is one of my favorite people and we flew many "interesting" missions together. We also served together at McConnell AFB after Korat. As I've told your dad, he was one of the most influential folks I met in my fighter pilot days. Take care, Jack

Was an instructor at Mt Home AFB early 90's in F-111s. Still remember taking my spaniels to Doc Levine and with his Ford pickup with the "F-105 Driver" license plates. I salute you all. Lt Col TC Schultz, USAF, Ret.

TC, Thanks for your posting and comments. Many F-105 drivers went on to drive the F-111. Thank you for your service. Take care, Jack

Tom Elder (MSgt retired): (thuds4evr@hotmail.com

Awesome site! Thought that maybe the nickels had been forgotten. I was one of the group of Maint folks who came down from Yakota in 1966. A number of us were out of the 36th TFS. After we got to Korat the Thais would not allow the US to bring our fighters in country. Don't remember just how long that lasted but do remember that we were not allowed to go on the flight line until our A/C came in. Korat was not a great place to have nothing to do! Since a lot of us had prior time in Thailand, our rotation to the next assignments started, as I remember in Dec of 66. My own was Feb of 67. I would go to Germany and the 526th FIS and back to Duces.

I must say here as I often say to anyone who will listen, of 20 yrs in the AF, the finest time was that spent on the F-105 and with the people whom I was able to work with.

Also I want to mention standing in the pay line in the darkened 34TFS orderly room while Major Blank ran the gun camera film over and over, answering any questions about his shoot down of the MIG. As I went by him I asked, "Did the MIG pilot get out?" His reply was "NO, watch those shells go down his wing and over the cockpit, he never had a chance." The right guy, in the right Thud, at the right time!
Tom

Hi Tom, Thanks for the entry and thanks for your service. We appreciate your comments and story about your time with the F-105. Jack

Errin Pichard: errin.pichard@gmail.com

Hi- Just wondering if anyone has any info they can provide on this particular airplane. I've located two pictures of it, but I don't have any info about who else flew it, how it got it's name, etc. My dad, Dale Pichard, was shot down July 7, 1967 in this aircraft and later rescued. He was in the 44th TFS, but I noticed the plane mentioned in some 34th TFS narratives. Did the squadrons share planes?

Great site! Thanks!

Hi Errin, Thanks for the entry. I served with Dale and we had some interesting times. Take care, Jack
