25 - Thanks

Tom Elder: thuds4evr@tcworks.net

Jack, Thanks for the website and I might add job well done.
I was one of the guys that came down to help start the 34th from the 36th TFS out of Yokota.
I well remember how we arrived ready to continue with what we had done TDY from Japan for the previous 2 years at Takhli, and the Thai Government’s refusal to allow our F-105s in country for a short time period. We maintenance folks had to sit and wait.
Also I well remember the pay line snaking through a darkened 34th TFS Orderly Room and Major Blank standing by the projector as the gun camera film of his MiG shoot down was run over and over. We were told that the Major would answer any questions we might have. The guy in front of me asked Major Blank if he thought he had killed the MiG pilot. With no hesitation at all he replied "There is no doubt in my mind that he was killed, watch those shells walk in on the left wing and through the canopy".
Like others, I find that looking back on a 20 yr AF stint, those few years in the 36th TFS and the 34th TFS were truly the most outstanding.
Thanks to all the "thud drivers" and never forget the ones we didn't get back, thus my E mail address. Tom Elder

22 - Fighter Pilot's Daughter (Don O. Austin, LtCol USAF Ret.)

Heather Austin Lamboy: heatherlamboy@verizon.net

I think often about how fortunate I am that my father, through skill and good fortune, managed to return home unscathed from Vietnam. I would not be here to read about you otherwise. His experience at Vietnam, and generally in the Air Force make up a large part of his pride and self. The good values that were instilled in that experience, such as loyalty, strength, pride and sheer guts were shared with me. I look up to my father for his strength of character and I hope to have that strength someday. I can already see it in my brother (see entry 21). I want to thank all of you for providing such a great foundation and giving us opportunity to continue to enjoy freedom and peace stateside. It is a sacrifice you made not only for yourselves, but for your families and country. For that, we are forever indebted.

I am very proud to be a fighter pilot's daughter!!

21 - Hero's

Kurt L. Austin: Kurt.Austin@AFOTEC.af.mil

To all of the men of the 34th Fighter Squadron. My father (Lt Col Donald O. Austin USAF Ret) was a member of this prestigious squadron in 66/67. I was very fortunate to have him return from what appeared to be one hell of a war, especially the "PACK 6" missions. He was a model father to both me and my sister with a typical fighter pilot approach. I have flown in Desert Storm / Desert Fox / Enduring/Iraqi Freedom in both B-52 and B-1 and have experienced combat both in the air and on the ground. I am currently the F-35 Operational Test Director at AFOTEC. To the Point: I have been raised by fighter pilots throughout my adolescence and I want you all to know that this generation of fighter pilots are my heroes and I am quite sure that my friends growing up would concur. Thank you for doing what you did. You all are a credit to your generation and fighter pilot community. You exceeded the standard in all areas. Keep your speed up and Check 6, Kurt L. Austin Lt. Col. USAF

Fes Cannady: fescan@comcast.net

Your site was great. I was a weapons loader 1966-67. Maybe I loaded your plane at one time or another.
I have a DVD of 8 MM movies I shot there that I sell for $7.00 to any USA address.
I also have a site with many Korat photos but I can not put the URL here. Anyone can email me and I will give it to them.
Regards, A1C Fes Cannady.

18 - Unit History

James Carter: fish431@yahoo.com

Sir,
I served with the 34th from 92-96 and I realize your site does not pertain to that period. But during my time as a crew chief when I had the chance and I was at ops I would get the unit historian to show me scrapbooks that the squadron still maintained from the days you guys spent at Korat. I wished that unit lineage had been more emphasized. I don’t think anybody even knew of "The Men in Black". What a shame. Well anyway I knew from your scrapbooks and now ten years later I remember. Your sacrifices are not forgotten! Thank you and God Bless.
James

17 - 2006 Reunion & this GREAT website

David Carter: dcarter11@sbcglobal.net

Went to O Club at Hill one Friday evening (16 Jun 06) to visit some F-22 jocks here TDY - to get to the Officer's Lounge I had to go through a party room decorated with red and black, and two ladies in black party flight suits. Asked what was going on: "The 34th TFS is having a reunion tonight."
. . . So it was that I stumbled on to a great reunion! Had a great time Friday and Saturday nights visiting with folks I'd flown with Jan-mid Aug 1967.

Jack, thanks for putting up a "Class Act" website!!! Well done.
. . . Homer Terry, thanks for putting the link to this website in "The Final Compilation of Names on the Scarf" article you sent out.

16 - Glen Bullock

Al Haberbusch: haberPSU64@cox.net

I was a college classmate (we were in AFROTC) and friend of Glen Bullock. In my view he had good prospects to go a long way in the USAF. I didn't really get to see him much once we hit active duty. He and I did get together while he was in UPT at Craig AFB , AL and I was TDY to a school at Maxwell. While he was at Nellis he came in to see me as I was stationed at the then Los Angeles AFS (Space Systems Division of AF Systems Command).

I have made some postings on virtual walls about Glen. In fact the picture you have on your site is the one I posted on the walls. Initially I thought he was in the 469th TFS but found out later he was in the 34th.

I would like to hear from those who knew and flew with Glen in those few short months at Korat May-Oct 66. Hopefully he was the kind of officer I felt he would be.

I was lucky and spent 27 years all in the research, development, test and acquisition business -- space, aircraft and munitions and made one more grade than I thought I would -- lots of right place, right time, right support.

I currently live adjacent to Eglin AFB FL where I did three assignments.
Regards, Al Haberbusch, Col (Ret) USAF
